Harlem JazzFormat : 32" x 32" Oil on boardThose who board the number 1 line at 125th in Harlem will be familiar with this view. This is looking northbound, toward Morningside Heights and Cloisters. The number 1 line reaches daylight at about 122nd Street, and continues to climb as it runs north. The result is that by the 125th Street station there are a series of stairs and landings to navigate before reaching the train platform. This painting is the view from one of those landings. It is a sunny winter morning, just after the rush hour. By focusing on the dramatic arches, juxtaposed with the shadows in the crossing zones below, I loved the resulting design. I can not wait to paint is again on a more overcast day. (in private collection) |

Noguchi's TraceFormat : 16" x 12" Oil on boardPerhaps I would have never decided to paint the Queensborough Bridge had it not been for my decision to visit Noguchi's studio in Queens. After reading up on Noguchi's life I decided to follow his preferred method of getting to and from his studio, which involves crossing the East River onto Roosevelt Island via the tram, then walking from there. After seeing the bridge up close I fell in love with it, and had to paint this magnificent structure. available |

Note in the WindowFormat : 12" x 16" Oil painting on boardThis is from my series of New York water tower paintings. One of the things I love about New York is the water towers. You have to keep looking up to see all of them. This painting is on Spring Street, looking toward Greene in SoHo. (in private collection) |

New York StaccatoFormat : 9" x 12" Oil painting on boardA cold, overcast day in New York. There was beauty in how the complex structures of the city looked against the remarkably plain but stormy the sky that day. (in private collection) |
